Super Robot Chogokin - Anti-Gurren Lagann

Although the Anti-Spiral is able to overwhelm the Dai-Gurren Dan with immense force, they choose to take a form similiar to the foes in order to inflicting absolute despair upon their defeat.

Out-of-box content. Drills, lots and lots of drill.

Close-up on the front. This figure also spot a different head design with a featureless face. In another word, this mecha does not show any emotion which suits the Anti Spirals theme very well.

Bandai gave us 3 additional face plate with different emotion for us to express ourselves. I actually prefered all those alternative face plate.

It comes with 2 pairs of long pointy purple drills.

Time for some action poses.

Drills were made from soft rubber material so it does not really hold up straight like a solid drill.

My drill will pierce the heaven! Opppsss wrong slogan.

Hey you over there! Yes! You!!!

I have a pair of wings which fits Anti-Gurren perfectly.
Most people might not know where this mecha originated from. It is neither in the anime series nor the OVA. It was actually made especially for the Super Robot War series. I am not sure if Banpresto intentionally refused to put TTGL (Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann) into the game due to power balance issue or they are just trying to save the best for later. Since there are no TTGL so there would not be any Granzeboma. The Anti-Spiral need a mecha to represent themselves hence the Anti-Gurren Lagann was borned. The black and red colour scheme gave this mecha a gloom and menacing appearance, befitting the Anti-Spiral.

The design of the figure was great besides the oversized knees. Initially, it looks kind of awkward but the design actually grows on me. Articulation was great with a lot of metal parts. The finishing on the figure was great with minor or neglectable flaw. Grab this figure if you are a fan of the series. I highly recommend it for your collection.

Revoltech #66 Gurren & Lagann

It has been a while I wrote anything on Gurren Lagann so here is another Revoltech figure from one of my favourite super robot anime, Gurren and Lagann.

The out-of-box content. There are accessories for both Gurren and Lagann.

Gurren and Lagann are 2 separate Gunmen which are piloted by Kamina and Simon respectively.

Lagann is Simon's personal Gunmen which he finds in the first episode while digging tunnels in his village. It draws power from the Core Drill, a small golden drill Simon uses similar to an ignition key. Unlike any other Gunmen in the series, the Lagann sports a unique cockpit and stands just short of an average human adult.

Gurren, originally named "Gunzar" is an above-average sized Beastmen-piloted mecha. It was subsequently captured, rebuilt, stylized and named by Kamina. Being of typical Gunmen proportions, the Gurren is able to fight without the Lagann's power. While its individual power was initially not on the same level as advanced Gunmen/pilot pairs, such as Viral and his Enki, Kamina eventually became experienced enough to hold his own against multiple enemies.

We will pierce through heaven!

The shade on Gurren can be used as a deadly blade.

Thanks to those Revoltech joints, you will be able to pose Gurren on some of the most dynamic poses.

Lagann is able to form drills anywhere on it's body and use it as a weapon. The most well-known form of this attack is the "Lagann Impact".

Gurren would grab hold of Lagann and flung it out towards it's enemy. Lagann Impact can also be used to assimilate other mecha into Lagann.

It is through this ability that the titular Gurren Lagann is created!

If I am not mistaken, Gurren and Lagann might be the last figure produced by Kaiyodo for this Revoltech line. They might not be as cool or as awesome like the other mecha from this show but they are iconic on their own right and is a must-have for any Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann fan.

Revoltech #70 Arc Gurren Lagann

The human annihilation programme has been activated and the moon was set to collide with earth in just a matter of days.

In order to save live on earth from total destruction, the Arc Gurren was utilized to evacuate Kamina City's civilian and thousands of animal to space. The effort proves to be futile because the anti-spiral was set to destroy all traces of spiral power on earth. They send the Mugan to intercept the Arc and was able to force the Arc into a tight position.

Simon and Viral in the Gurren Lagann, arrive just in time to save the day. In a desperate move to save the Arc from certain doom. The Gurren Lagann was merged with the Arc Gurren transforming the later into Arc Gurren Lagann.

Kaiyodo is generous with the second Yamaguchi release. It comes with 2 revoltech joints and 1 joint connector for the standard stand. There is a storage box, a pair of open palms, a pair of spiral energy effect and a point chip.

Front view of the figure.

Close up on the front view.

Rear view of the figure.

Close up on the rear view.

Side view of the figure.

The Arc Gurren Lagann does not have a flat sole to stand on so the sculptor comes out with a brilliant idea to overcome this by giving the Arc Gurren Lagann high heels!

What are we waiting for? Time for some action!!!

Garrrghhh!!!

Come on Mugan! I will take you on like a real man!

Take this!!!

Space-time Shattering...

Burst Spinning Punch!!!

Kaiyodo has improved a lot on their quality control. The paintjob is top-notch compare to the first series of Yamaguchi TTGL release. This could be a reason why this figure is basically rare in the market now a day. This reason alone makes this release a must have for TTGL fans out there. :D

Revoltech #64 - Enkidu

I have been slacking off again. :P By the time anyone read this post it should be somewhere around 2009. Without further ado let me present to you, Enkidu from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

After his defeat and losing his kabuto in the hand of Kamina, Viral make a hasty retreat but vow to exact his vengence on those hairless monkeys. The headless Enki was recondition to Enkidu.

Based on Mesopotamian folklore, Enkidu is a wildman who was raised by animals. The Disney equivalent will be Mowgli from Jungle Book. Later on, Enkidu met Gilgamesh (another popular fiction character)and befriended him.

Enkidu and the accessories. It is really disappointing to see so little gadgets being offered here.

Front and rear view of Enkidu.

Close up on the front and rear view.

The sickle-mohawk weapon that comes with the figure. I still prefer Enki's katanas over this. :P

I did not recall Enkidu having any boosters. Is this another marketing strategy?

Enkidu with the drawn sickle. Kaiyodo should at least give us a part to plug those holes left by the sickle. It looks as if Enkidu was shot on the head twice!

Side by side comparison with Enki. I say this figure is around 80% similiar to Enki.

I am no headless chicken! Time for some action pose!!!

Viral: Give me back my kabuto you thieving monkeys!!!
Kamina: Come and get it!!!

Viral: You ask for it!!!

Overall, I am a bit disappointed by this release. I can live with the paintjob but the amount of gadget that comes with this figure is abit lacking compare to the other TTGL release. In my opinion, the least that Kaiyodo can do is give us a set of extra arms so that we have the freedom of displaying this figure as Enkidu OR Enkidudu. I bet alot of people will not mind buying two set of this to display as either of the two mecha if Kaiyodo decide to do so. If you have not grab Enki before this, what is stopping you from getting Enkidu? Go for it. :D

Until then, lets go monkeys with all those TTGL Kaiyodo figures!

Trivia: The voice actor for Viral, Nobuyuki Hiyama is also the voice actor for Shishioh Guy from The King of Braves; Gaogaigar (another great anime mecha that I enjoy). :D

Revoltech #62 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

In the final arc of the anime, the combined spiral energy from Simon and his comrades gave birth to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. If you were to categories TTGL, it will fall into the "Cosmic Entity" group because it is 10 millions light years in height! That is around 9,460,730,472,580.8 km x 10,000,000 or 100 times the size of the Milky Way!!! It is so humongous that it is seen battling the Anti-Spiral's Grand Zamboa using the universe as their arena and throwing galaxies around like a plaything!!! That being said, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is close to what everyone will call a diety.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann along with all the gadjets. Kaiyodo should at least includes Yoko's rifle and Viral's katana here!

Front and rear view of TTGL. TTGL spot a design similiar to Gurren Lagann with a few exceptions notably the 10 red skulls that can be found all over the body.

Close up on the front view. Sorry for the lousy shots. I need to brush up on my photography skill.

Spiral energy burns in the center of the face on the chest that radiates flame which gives TTGL the appearance of the Dai-Gurren Brigade's emblem.

Its abdominal mouth is clenched onto the head of the Lazengann, containing a fully resurrected Lord Genome.

Galaxy-sized GIGA DRILL!!!!!

Kaiyodo has done an excellent job with this figure with minor paintjob problem. One of my complain regarding this figure is the tone for the red. Kaiyodo should use a brighter red similiar to that of the box art instead of the dark red they used on the actual production. It gives TTGL a dull appearance compare to the previous 2 Gurren Lagann release. That aside, there is also room for improvement for the head. Perhaps, it is too small (smaller than Gurren Lagann) hence it is difficult for the sculptor to work with. I find the facial expression a bit emotionless. At least give us a head with that cocky grin!

All in all, TTGL is a great release. Now I will patiently wait for Kaiyodo to release a Great Zamboa so that I can pair it with TTGL. :D
