Revoltech Hokuto no Ken #02- Member of Zeed

Hey guys! I am finally back at home after a lengthy official trip and attending Hobbycon 2008 in Kota Kinabalu. It is good to be back and let us get down to business right away!

In my previous blog entry, I wrote a simple review on Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken. In a world without order and chaos reigned, the violent-hearted form raiding parties to prey on the weak. The Zeed Group is such a party that was introduced in the first chapter of the manga/anime.

There is not much gimmicks that come with this figure.

Front and rear view of the figure.

Close up on the front and rear. I love the facial expression. :D

Hey bro!!! What happen to your head?!?

The selling point for this figure is not the articulation but explosion gimmick! First of all, separate the connector on the chest. Then switch the normal head with the exploding head which was hidden in the chest compartment.

Next flip the separated body sideway.

The viscera was superbly carved... I mean sculpted. :P How many organs can you spot?

After that, flip the piece that represent gore.

Then you have it, your personal fountain of gore and viscera. :P

There is not much you can do with this figure but I really like the exploding gimmick! Come on! You have to agree on that! :P When was the first time you saw something as cool as that? I can bet that this is one of its kind. If only I have the money and time, I will get more of these figure and build my own army of Zeed! :P

Revoltech Hokuto no Ken #01- Kenshiro

The year is 20xx. A nuclear holocaust has decimated the planet. The sea dried up and the planet was scorched. The earth was devoided of life... but mankind survive...

That is the introduction of one of the best anime ever created in the 1980s. The story revolves around Kenshiro, who is the sole successor of an ancient ansatsuken, (Killer Art) Hokuto Shinken. The practitioner of Hokuto Shinken is able to maim and even kill their opponent by striking into their secret acupuncture points, which often resulting in a violent and gruesome death. Kenshiro uses this art to oppose violent and uphold justice by helping the needy and punishing the guilty.

This figure comes with 4 extra pair of hands, 1 head, 1 stand, 1 extra limb, 1 jacket part and a nunchaku.

Front and rear view.

The extra limb and jacket part is for the right arm.

We shall get down to business now...

Kenshiro with his stance.

Come and face me if you dare! The profile of Kenshiro is based on legendary Bruce Lee.

Martial art will not be complete without some overhead kick! :P

"I will block your attack with seven fingers." This is a quote taken from the battle against Uighur, the warden of Cassandra.

Kenshiro's fist does the job of beating punk to a pulp most of the time but he fancy a nunchaku on some occasion. This is also a tribute to Bruce Lee.

Kenshiro can practically kill someone with his finger.

I am the finger that will reach through heaven?!? :P Too much influence from TTGL.

As an overall, this is a great purchase. For the amount of money that I have to pay for this (which is relatively cheaper compare to all the other Hokuto no Ken figures out there), I am satisfied with the head sculpt that was able to capture the spirit of Kenshiro. The paint job was magnificent with some minor mistake. The only thing that I dislike is the limited articulation around the hip area. If Kaiyodo can do something about that, this will really be one of the greatest Revoltech figure yet!

Another thing that I would like to see is an extra chest for Kenshiro! In the manga or the anime, Kenshiro is usually seen fighting with an exposed chest (due to numerous reason) with that iconic seven scar on his chest. It does not do this figure any justice without that! I demand a bare-chested Kenshiro!!! =P

Revoltech #62 - Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

In the final arc of the anime, the combined spiral energy from Simon and his comrades gave birth to Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. If you were to categories TTGL, it will fall into the "Cosmic Entity" group because it is 10 millions light years in height! That is around 9,460,730,472,580.8 km x 10,000,000 or 100 times the size of the Milky Way!!! It is so humongous that it is seen battling the Anti-Spiral's Grand Zamboa using the universe as their arena and throwing galaxies around like a plaything!!! That being said, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is close to what everyone will call a diety.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann along with all the gadjets. Kaiyodo should at least includes Yoko's rifle and Viral's katana here!

Front and rear view of TTGL. TTGL spot a design similiar to Gurren Lagann with a few exceptions notably the 10 red skulls that can be found all over the body.

Close up on the front view. Sorry for the lousy shots. I need to brush up on my photography skill.

Spiral energy burns in the center of the face on the chest that radiates flame which gives TTGL the appearance of the Dai-Gurren Brigade's emblem.

Its abdominal mouth is clenched onto the head of the Lazengann, containing a fully resurrected Lord Genome.

Galaxy-sized GIGA DRILL!!!!!

Kaiyodo has done an excellent job with this figure with minor paintjob problem. One of my complain regarding this figure is the tone for the red. Kaiyodo should use a brighter red similiar to that of the box art instead of the dark red they used on the actual production. It gives TTGL a dull appearance compare to the previous 2 Gurren Lagann release. That aside, there is also room for improvement for the head. Perhaps, it is too small (smaller than Gurren Lagann) hence it is difficult for the sculptor to work with. I find the facial expression a bit emotionless. At least give us a head with that cocky grin!

All in all, TTGL is a great release. Now I will patiently wait for Kaiyodo to release a Great Zamboa so that I can pair it with TTGL. :D

Revoltech #60 - Enki

Sorry for the lack of updates guys! We are heading towards the end of the year and everyone is trying to complete all their work intended for this year. The same goes to me, I am struggling to get as much work done as possible before taking my leaves. I have alot of abandoned "project" back at home that needs my further attention. =P

Before all that, here is a little something for Revoltech Enki.

Enki is Viral's personal Gunman, which resemble a white armored samurai. Based on Sumerian myths, Enki is the god of water, wisdom and creation. Even though Enki was a god, the myth depicts him of anything near perfect. The same goes to Viral's Enki. Although Enki is the product of significant innovation in Gunmen technology compare to Gurren and Lagann, it has it's flaws. It does not run on spiral energy and that is the reason why Gurren Lagann is able to best it in battle again and again.

Unlike stout Gunmen, Enki was build with agility in mind. It is more segmented and has multiple joints that allow it to perform complex actions, such as throws, kicks, and various martial arts techniques. It has quite a number of hidden projectile (mostly missiles) that is conceal under the arms, thighs, shoulders and chest plates. Enki also possesses a wrist mounted concave blast-shield, and a helmet with a large black ring atop of it, that is actually the charging focus for a medium-range particle beam cannon. Despite all that, Viral prefer to use Enki's katana to slice and dice his enemies.

All the accessories that came with Revoltech Enki.

Front and rear view of Enki. Enamel paint was applied to bring out those panel lines.

What is a samurai without a katana?

Waiting for an opening to draw the katana.

There are so many cool pose you can do with those katana!

I borrow this pose from a character from Samurai X. Can you guess who uses this katana stance? :P

I am a martial artist!!! The water crane stance!!!

All the concealed missiles on the shoulder and chest ready to be fired!

The broken black ring on top of the helmet thanks to Simon and Kamina.

Overall, I have more fun with Enki compared to Gurren Lagann or Lazengann. The main reason is that it comes with a pair of katanas. On top of that, the articulation is superb. I am able to pose numerous samurai stance with Enki and the only thing that limits me is my own creativity! My only complain for this figure is the arm design. The way the arm is at the moment limits the degree of movement to the front of the chest. The only way to fix this is to cut out the extra part. I hope Kaiyodo will fixed this in their future release in Enkidu and perhaps Enkidudu. Who knows they might give out extra improved hands for Enki. =P We can always hope for the best right?
