Revoltech #64 - Enkidu

I have been slacking off again. :P By the time anyone read this post it should be somewhere around 2009. Without further ado let me present to you, Enkidu from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

After his defeat and losing his kabuto in the hand of Kamina, Viral make a hasty retreat but vow to exact his vengence on those hairless monkeys. The headless Enki was recondition to Enkidu.

Based on Mesopotamian folklore, Enkidu is a wildman who was raised by animals. The Disney equivalent will be Mowgli from Jungle Book. Later on, Enkidu met Gilgamesh (another popular fiction character)and befriended him.

Enkidu and the accessories. It is really disappointing to see so little gadgets being offered here.

Front and rear view of Enkidu.

Close up on the front and rear view.

The sickle-mohawk weapon that comes with the figure. I still prefer Enki's katanas over this. :P

I did not recall Enkidu having any boosters. Is this another marketing strategy?

Enkidu with the drawn sickle. Kaiyodo should at least give us a part to plug those holes left by the sickle. It looks as if Enkidu was shot on the head twice!

Side by side comparison with Enki. I say this figure is around 80% similiar to Enki.

I am no headless chicken! Time for some action pose!!!

Viral: Give me back my kabuto you thieving monkeys!!!
Kamina: Come and get it!!!

Viral: You ask for it!!!

Overall, I am a bit disappointed by this release. I can live with the paintjob but the amount of gadget that comes with this figure is abit lacking compare to the other TTGL release. In my opinion, the least that Kaiyodo can do is give us a set of extra arms so that we have the freedom of displaying this figure as Enkidu OR Enkidudu. I bet alot of people will not mind buying two set of this to display as either of the two mecha if Kaiyodo decide to do so. If you have not grab Enki before this, what is stopping you from getting Enkidu? Go for it. :D

Until then, lets go monkeys with all those TTGL Kaiyodo figures!

Trivia: The voice actor for Viral, Nobuyuki Hiyama is also the voice actor for Shishioh Guy from The King of Braves; Gaogaigar (another great anime mecha that I enjoy). :D

Revoltech Hokuto no Ken #03- Rei

I have been very very lazy lately. Despite the fact that I have a mountain of model kits to assemble and paint, I cannot find a motivation to start a project. The only thing that I have been doing during this long holiday is to play console games. Guess I might write an entry or two regarding what games I have been playing later. :D

Without further ado, let me present Rei from the Hokuto no Ken series. For those that is not familiar to the anime/manga, Rei is introduced as the second user of Nanto Shinken or to be exact, Nanto Suichoken (South Star Waterfowl Fist). He is a helldriven mercenary who has a sole purpose of finding "the man with seven scars" who he thought is the murderer and the man responsible for his sister's kidnapping. In the first arc of his introduction, Rei is hired alongside Kenshiro by Mamiya to protect her village against the Fang Clan. After Airi is found and rescued by Ken, Rei becomes Kenshiro's closest ally and supports him for a few story arcs.

The figure or Rei along with all the extra parts and gadgets.

I am no Ultraman!

Nanto Suichoken (South Star Waterfowl Fist) is the most elegant Nanto Shinken. The practitioner is depicted as a waterfowl dancing on the water.

This is the midget from the Fang clan that comes with the figure.

Close up on the little midget.

Our little friend with the axe and the scimitar.

Ooo I forgot to mention that our friend here is a cannon fodder for Rei's Nanto Suichoken...

Overall, I love this Rei. You can pose it in whatever cool moves from the anime/manga. The only thing I would like to complain is the lack of extra heads to depict different emotion! There were time when Rei lost his cool and turn into a raging fighter. It is not too much to ask for at least 1 head showing a screaming Rei right?

Revoltech Hokuto no Ken #02- Member of Zeed

Hey guys! I am finally back at home after a lengthy official trip and attending Hobbycon 2008 in Kota Kinabalu. It is good to be back and let us get down to business right away!

In my previous blog entry, I wrote a simple review on Kenshiro from Hokuto no Ken. In a world without order and chaos reigned, the violent-hearted form raiding parties to prey on the weak. The Zeed Group is such a party that was introduced in the first chapter of the manga/anime.

There is not much gimmicks that come with this figure.

Front and rear view of the figure.

Close up on the front and rear. I love the facial expression. :D

Hey bro!!! What happen to your head?!?

The selling point for this figure is not the articulation but explosion gimmick! First of all, separate the connector on the chest. Then switch the normal head with the exploding head which was hidden in the chest compartment.

Next flip the separated body sideway.

The viscera was superbly carved... I mean sculpted. :P How many organs can you spot?

After that, flip the piece that represent gore.

Then you have it, your personal fountain of gore and viscera. :P

There is not much you can do with this figure but I really like the exploding gimmick! Come on! You have to agree on that! :P When was the first time you saw something as cool as that? I can bet that this is one of its kind. If only I have the money and time, I will get more of these figure and build my own army of Zeed! :P

Revoltech Hokuto no Ken #01- Kenshiro

The year is 20xx. A nuclear holocaust has decimated the planet. The sea dried up and the planet was scorched. The earth was devoided of life... but mankind survive...

That is the introduction of one of the best anime ever created in the 1980s. The story revolves around Kenshiro, who is the sole successor of an ancient ansatsuken, (Killer Art) Hokuto Shinken. The practitioner of Hokuto Shinken is able to maim and even kill their opponent by striking into their secret acupuncture points, which often resulting in a violent and gruesome death. Kenshiro uses this art to oppose violent and uphold justice by helping the needy and punishing the guilty.

This figure comes with 4 extra pair of hands, 1 head, 1 stand, 1 extra limb, 1 jacket part and a nunchaku.

Front and rear view.

Close up front and rear view.

Side view of the figure.

The extra limb and jacket part is for the right arm.

We shall get down to business now...

Kenshiro with his stance.

Come and face me if you dare! The profile of Kenshiro is based on legendary Bruce Lee.

Martial art will not be complete without some overhead kick! :P

"I will block your attack with seven fingers." This is a quote taken from the battle against Uighur, the warden of Cassandra.

Kenshiro's fist does the job of beating punk to a pulp most of the time but he fancy a nunchaku on some occasion. This is also a tribute to Bruce Lee.

Kenshiro can practically kill someone with his finger.

I am the finger that will reach through heaven?!? :P Too much influence from TTGL.

As an overall, this is a great purchase. For the amount of money that I have to pay for this (which is relatively cheaper compare to all the other Hokuto no Ken figures out there), I am satisfied with the head sculpt that was able to capture the spirit of Kenshiro. The paint job was magnificent with some minor mistake. The only thing that I dislike is the limited articulation around the hip area. If Kaiyodo can do something about that, this will really be one of the greatest Revoltech figure yet!

Another thing that I would like to see is an extra chest for Kenshiro! In the manga or the anime, Kenshiro is usually seen fighting with an exposed chest (due to numerous reason) with that iconic seven scar on his chest. It does not do this figure any justice without that! I demand a bare-chested Kenshiro!!! =P
